The Chinese Liberal Democrats, patrons Lord Paddy Ashdown and Sir Menzies Campbell, is an associated organisation of the Liberal Democrat Party. We exist to explore ways of reaching out to the Chinese community in the UK and to establish closer links with China.

Chinese Liberal Democrats join efforts in Chinatown, London to raise funds for victims of Haiti earthquake

On Sunday 17 January, representatives from various Chinese community grassroots organizations including Spectrum Radio congregated near the Stone Lions in the heart of Chinatown. The purpose was pure and simple, to raise funds to help in the international aid effort in Haiti following the shocking earthquake that has left hundreds of thousands of people devastated.

Welcome the Tiger - Join us for Chinese New Year Banquet

Celebrations don't have to end on the 2nd January. The Chinese Liberal Democrats will be welcoming in the Year of the Tiger, at a Chinese New Year Banquet on Wednesday 10 Feb 2009, at 7.00 pm in China Town, London.

Claire Hoang joins Councillor Mentoring Scheme

A reception at the House of Commons saw the launch of the Operation Black Vote Mentoring scheme for black and ethnic minority female councillors. Amongst them is Claire Hoang, the only candidate of Chinese ethnicity to be selected for the shadowing scheme. There were more than a dozen aspiring BME women present who are all keen to stand as Liberal Democrat councillors.

The China News Agency has named 2009 as "1 AD", YEAR ONE in the history of Chinese Politics in the UK. The Chinese Liberal Democrats have been proud to have been part of this, supporting and working with other organisations to make a difference for the community.

The Membership Secretary of the Chinese Liberal Democrats, Philip Ling has been selected as the Parliamentary Candidate for the next General Election for the area of Bromsgrove in North Worcestershire.

London Citizens recently renamed Citizens UK continues to grow and expand its membership base which has Chinese organisations such as Min Quan and Chinese Information and Advice Centre as members.

Linda Chung: Lib Dem Councillor for Hampstead Town.

Anna Lo was elected in March 2007 as the MLA for South Belfast for the Alliance Party (sister party to LIberal Democrats) - the first ethnic Chinese person to be elected to a legislative parliament in Europe. She is currently a member of the Assembly committees for Social Development, and for Employment and Learning. She speaks regularly in the Assembly on a range of issues. She has also been selected by the Alliance Party to stand in the next Westminster election in the South Belfast constituency.
