Chinese New Year message from Nick Clegg MP, Leader of the Liberal Democrats

12.00.00pm GMT Sun 25th Jan 2009

Nick Clegg

Nick Clegg MP, Leader of Liberal Democrats

It is with great pleasure that I wish all of the Chinese Community in the UK a very happy New Year on the advent of the Year of the Ox.

This occasion is a wonderful time for families and friends from the Chinese Community all over the world to celebrate their shared cultural heritage and reflect upon their year, whilst looking forward with hope to the 12 months ahead. The Spring Festival also celebrates the importance of new beginnings and encourages us to reflect upon the idea of reaping what you sow.

Beyond this, Chinese New Year is also a time to acknowledge the valuable social, cultural and economic contribution made by the Chinese Community in the UK.

We would hope that in the wake of what has been a difficult time for many families, the year of the Ox which is said to represent a year of stability and growth will bring exactly this.
