BC Project 17 Dec

Speech by Philip Ling, Membership Secretary of the Chinese Liberal Democrats and Parliamentary Candidate for Bromsgrove delivered to http://www.bcproject.org.uk/ Xmas Party 2009 on Wed 16th Dec 2009

Philip Ling spoke at the BC Project Christmas event to emphasis how important good role models are for encouraging members of the Chinese community in Britain to enter politics.

In the case of Philip Ling he was always interested in politics and wanted to get involved. But it was never the explicit wish of his parents that he should get into politics, although they are fully supportive. Many parents want their children to have good professional careers, politics currently does not have this standing.

Article reporting the event

Organisations like the BC Project are important to encourage people to participate as voters and as activists in British politics. Philip Ling ended by saying that the UK parliament has had a woman Prime Minister, a blind Secretary of State and Asian MPs; and hopefully in 2010 a Chinese MP.
