December 4, 2016 2:28 PM

Jerry Cheung at Sheffield Business AwardsChinese Liberal Democrats would like to congratulate our Co-Chair Jerry Cheung, Managing Director of New Era Development (UK) Ltd for receiving the prestigious Sheffield Business Award in the category of "Special Recognition," for his contributions to the City!

New Era Square is a 20 storey scheme with 86,100 sq ft space for retail, student flats and office space. The project is largely funded by investments from China and there will be an exhibition hall for cultural activities as well as serving as a business incubator to enhance trade links between China and the UK.

As reported in the Star, Jerry's dream was to create a "cosmopolitan, international, multi-cultural square which is available to all in the city". He persuaded Chinese investors to support the development after showcasing the city of Sheffield's huge potential for growth. As a result a consortium of 6 investors from mainland China invested £65m into the scheme.

Jerry said: "this is the beginning of a new chapter for Sheffield's Chinese business community."

Indeed, Jerry has led the way in breaking new ground and in revitalising Sheffield business centre, has brought new jobs, opportunities and prosperity to the people of Sheffield. Nick Clegg MP, former leader of the Liberal Democrats commented: " As a local MP I believe that New Era Square is an outstanding chance to move our city forward and build on our strong business relations with China."
