Introducing Will Cheung, Council candidate in Northamptonshire

March 3, 2017 10:18 AM

Will CheungWill Cheung is a British Born Chinese member of the Liberal Democrats in Northamptonshire (Corby & East Northamptonshire constituency). He is a relative newcomer to political activism, after finding interest in the wake of Hong Kong's "Umbrella Revolution" protests of 2014. The EU membership referendum result spurred Will to pro-EU activism and subsequently joining the Liberal Democrats. He describes his motivation for joining the Liberal Democrats as a means to get involved with communities, putting into practice resisting the politics of extremism.

Will has worked in many sectors at many levels, enabling him to communicate effectively across the community. During his student years, he worked in data entry, in a factory, as a youth worker and in retail. In recent years, he spent time working in continuous improvement, project management and eCommerce. He holds both degrees in computer systems engineering and also management with product development from Cranfield University. He now runs a small music shop near his home and lives with his wife and toddler son.

Will wanted to champion local residents by being a liberal voice within local government hence decided to actively campaign for the Raunds, Stanwick and Hargrave division in this May's upcoming county council elections. He has already been meeting with residents and understanding issues around local crime and policing, transport links and traffic safety, as well as concerns and opportunities around rapid expansion of nearby warehousing and industrial development.
