Frank Wang at the community protest on 8th August

Frank Wang ran a small coffee cart by one of the entrances to Bethnal Green tube station. It's a very busy area, he's been there for 15 years, standing out in all weathers. He's popular and well known for his kindness, offering affordable coffees, and hot drinks to the homeless in the winter.

A few months ago, when work started on a new upmarket bar just behind his pitch, his electricity was cut-off in suspicious circumstances. Frank received threatening racist notes telling him to leave and to go back to where he belongs. He bought a new generator, which was then stolen. TfL as his landlord will not reconnect him. He can't continue his business; his livelihood and home are under threat.

The local East End community, are deeply angered and says: "Frank was born in China but he's made his home here; this is where he belongs". They, led by activists Sam Odd, are running a campaign to Save Frank. Our Chinese LibDem co-founder Linda Chung attended the rally and demonstration on Wed 8 August to show support, together with representatives from Chinese Information Advice Centre, London Chinatown Chinese Association and Operation Black Vote.

Linda thanked the crowd profusely for their attendance and showing of solidarity. She said: "It is so heart-warming to see you all here. Frank is a small trader - what chance does he have against big business and institutions when they decide he's in their way and an inconvenience? It's simply not right that he can be bullied out of his livelihood and be subjected to faceless racist threats. You can see he is overcome by emotion by your strength of affection shown towards him. On behalf of all communities fighting against injustice, thank you for all for your campaigning efforts to get justice for Frank. We wish you every success in the campaign ".

Frank was very visibly moved at the support from the community at the demo. He has said:

"TfL is my landlord, they trust me, I pay my bills always and I've never been any trouble, all these fifteen years there has been no problem, but now this.

"I am a family man. I have kids to take care of. They know I can't fight because I have no English. They can't do this to me, it is not their right.

"They won't let me reconnect my electricity box - so I bought a generator, and now they've put in a complaint about the noise it makes.

"I don't understand how this can happen. I love this community, I love Bethnal Green."

This is not just for those in Bethnal Green to support Frank Wang, but anyone who cares about hard working entrepreneurs being pushed around to accommodate big business should sign this petition and demand that Frank is treated decently.
