June 24, 2019 10:04 AM

Save Frank Wang eventA successful campaign which Chinese Liberal Democrats have supported has helped Bethnal Green's local coffee vendor return to business after a 15 month hiatus, raising £10,000 to help him regain his coffee van.

Frank Wang, 53, who has served coffee outside Bethnal Green Tube Station for almost two decades, will relaunch his business on Friday with the help of local supporters and well-
wishers.

In April 2018, Mr. Wang was forced to sell his coffee stall and equipment, and give up his small business following action to cut his electricity supply.

Frank, who is excited about his return and has been overwhelmed by the generosity of the local community said: "I cannot thank the supporters and local community enough. You saved me and brought me back to the place that I love, where I've worked for so many years. I will be forever gratefully for your kindness and generosity."

Chinese LibDems co-founder Linda Chung said "This is such uplifting news - Frank is back - the story of a little man nearly driven out of his livelihood by big business but saved by a caring community."

Sam Dodd, who helped to lead the campaign to save Frank, said of the success: "The community of Bethnal Green is sick and tired of watching familiar, independently owned institutions shut down to make way for gentrification. "

Sir Simon Woolley, Director of Operation Black Vote who helped to drive the campaign to its successful conclusion said: "This has been a long campaign, but one which was won with
community support. It's brilliant Frank's back. This goes to show what communities can achieve by working together."

Local residents, businesses, supporters and well-wishers are invited to join Frank and his many friends at his relaunch at Bethnal Green Tube Station on Friday 21 st June at 1pm.
