Welcome to the LibDems, Dr George Lee!

September 17, 2019 9:15 PM

For those who do not know George Lee, he was Parliamentary Candidate for the Conservatives in 2010 in the constituency of Holborn and St Pancras.

He was also previously a senior officer in the Metropolitan Police, rising to be Sector Commander in Paddington Green. It was in that role that he developed and led a multi-agency initiative to tackle youth gang culture, introducing a holistic joined up programme titled DEEP - Decision Education Enforcement & Prevention. This was launched after the murder of headmaster Philip Lawrence at St Georges School in Maida Vale.

He has since pursued a career in the private sector and spent the last few years pursuing and obtaining a PhD from Trinity College, Cambridge University with his thesis on Comparative Policing in India and China.

The good news is, when George thought of returning to politics, he decided that he no longer wished to be a Tory candidate given their stance on BREXIT. This he said would be deeply damaging to UK's economy as well as on influence and standing in the EU and the world. He is also against the Conservative cuts in police funding and resources. His natural choice was therefore to defect to the Liberal Democrats and has recently been appointed PPC for the constituency of Westminster North.

"I have known George for almost a decade and have been hugely impressed by his credentials and dynamism. I believe he is a wonderful new addition to the Liberal Democrats and would like to welcome him to the LibDems and to CLDs! " said Merlene Emerson MBE, Co-founder of CLDs
