Chinese LibDems walk for Chinese charities

The British Chinese Project organised a fundraising walk last Saturday 9 April to raise funds for 13 Chinese community centres and charities across Britain.

It was originally billed as a 12-mile walk but came closer to 15 miles by the time we ended the walk in historic Limehouse, the location of the oldest Chinatown in London. En route we stopped by the Chinese National Healthy Living Centre and Chinese Welfare Trust in Soho Square, Camden Chinese Community Centre, Islington Chinese Association, Hackney Chinese Community Centre and finally Tower Hamlets Chinese Assocation where the below pic was taken.

Christine Lee, founder of BC Project secured funding for all 13 charitable organisations to help provide support services such as translation services, outreach programmes and activities promoting cultural exchange between British Chinese and the wider community.

In addition to fundraising for the Chinese community, the British Chinese Project also has as its primary aim the raising of political engagement and used the walk to encourage British Chinese to get registered to vote in UK elections and to make their voices heard in the upcoming London Mayoral and Greater London Assembly Elections on May 5 and the European Union Referendum on June 23.

Merlene Emerson, Vice-Chair of CLDs is the sole Chinese/SE Asian candidate across all parties that is standing for the London Assembly and was delighted to have the support of BC Project in the coming elections.
