ChineseLibDems at Conference: Making a difference

Many Chinese Lib Dem members were in Liverpool from the weekend at the largest Conference in their party's history. Attendance was up by more than 50% compared to previous years and general interest in the Party from the media and the public have grown following the change in Government .

Chair of the Chinese Lib Dems Merlene Toh Emerson (杜淑真 ) expressed her delight in seeing such a strong showing of party members and supporters and called the Conference a resounding success.

"This was an opportunity to hear from our leader and Deputy PM Nick Clegg and other Ministers directly and to be able to debate and inform Party policy.

Even though we are bound for a 5 year term with the Conservatives, we are still able to retain our own identity and values. We have seen from the motions passed, ranging from Free schools to Fairness in public expenditure cuts and Review of Trident, that the members continue to have a say and influence over the Coalition ."

Chinese ethnicity parliamentary candidates Philip Ling (凌家辉), Allan Siao Ming Witherick（謝曉明）also attended and participated in a number of fringe events as well as the exhibition which is used to raise awareness of different party related organisations and campaigns.

Allan said "This year the Chinese Lib Dems have achieved a lot, but of course just because the General election is over, it doesn't mean our work stops here. We will continue to campaign for with the community and in the community on a variety of issues. Now we are in government getting that voice heard is even more important."
