Sir Ed Davey MP

The Chinese Liberal Democrats are pleased to congratulate Ed, our Patron, as the new elected leader of the Liberal Democrats. We have confidence that his experience as an MP of 21 years, five as Energy and Climate Change Minister, will help steer the party and this country out of the current crisis caused by Brexit and Covid19.

We also wish to send our commiserations to Layla Moran. We know she will continue to be a huge asset to the Party, not just as our Education spokesperson, but also for her ability to reach out to a diverse segment of the electorate with her extraordinary media skills, positivity and outlook.

Dr Yeow Poon, Chair of CLDs in his letter of congratulations to Ed said :
"We are delighted to know that you want to listen to peoples' aspirations and concerns and believe we can build back better. We are behind your pledge to improve diversity within the party and are here to support your vision for the party and to help overcome barriers and challenges in the days and months ahead."

CLDs look forward to working with Ed in reconnecting with voters and in repositioning the party. In his acceptance speech he admitted that we have to replace Brexit as the party's key theme, important as it was at the time. In addition to fighting for a fairer society at home, we also have to work with countries across the world for peace and prosperity.

As a party, we need to become relevant again by being distinctive, progressive and pragmatic. We must continue to push for devolution and electoral reform, tackle inequality in all its myriad forms, deal with the urgency of climate change whilst building a sustainable economy and for the protection of civil liberties and human rights.

We have everything to fight for - in local and regional elections next May and in ousting the Conservative government come 2024.

We encourage all CLD members to support Ed and the party leadership, starting with listening to voters and in transforming and growing our party.
