Philip Ling feedsback on the election

9 May 2010

Chinese Liberal Democrat Philip Ling made this statement shortly after the results were announced in Bromsgrove:

"It has been a privilege to have been the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Bromsgrove. The campaign delivered the best ever general election result for the Liberal Democrats in Bromsgrove. We increased the number of votes by 3k to 10k and also the share of our votes by 5% to 20%. The two main parties both had a drop in their votes and share of votes."

"A hung Parliament actually increases the chances of Liberal Democrat policies on fair taxes, start in life, rebalanced economy and fair politics in being implemented. We will do what is right for the country, but will need to respect the voters who have supported us."

"Personally I have learnt a lot in this campaign both from the British public as well as the Chinese community. There is a need to promote the causes of those who are both under represented as well as unable to make their voices heard. That is the greatest role a politician can take. I will continue fighting for them, wherever my political future lies."

"I would like to thank everyone who has helped in my campaign both within Bromsgrove as well as nationally. Without their support I would not have achieved what I have. The media can play a positive, as well as negative, role in people's perception of politics, but generally I have had a good experience with them. The ethnic media has been especially positive and has played a huge role in increasing the turnout of Chinese voters."

"For now some well earned rest with friends and family is in order"
