The Membership Secretary of the Chinese Liberal Democrats, Philip Ling has been selected as the Parliamentary Candidate for the next General Election for the area of Bromsgrove in North Worcestershire.

Philip was chosen with an overwhelming majority at a hustings in Blackwell on Saturday 12th December.

Philip, 29, is from Warwick and studied Economics at the University of Bath. His career has covered the civil service to telecommunications and he is currently working for a retail bank.

On his selection Philip said

"I'm very happy and privileged to have been selected as the Liberal Democrat's prospective parliamentary candidate in Bromsgrove and I am looking forward to giving the people of the constituency a real choice in the next general election. We have a Conservative MP who has shown no remorse over her expenses and a Labour government which has long run out of ideas.

I'm offering the people of Bromsgrove positive politics, looking at solutions and not just criticising on a situation. Where I agree with other parties I will say, rather than find an artificial dividing line for the sake of party politics. I will also offer a long term vision for the area ranging from improving Bromsgrove High Street to how the Bromsgrove constituency should work closer with other authorities and the wider community on tackling the recession, attracting emerging industries into the region and combating climate change.

A vote for the Liberal Democrats would also be a vote on a fairer society, addressing the causes of crime, not just the effects and a more transparent and honest political system."

Geoff Ray, Chair of Bromsgrove Liberal Democrats, said

"Phil is a breath of fresh air, his youth, enthusiasm and integrity together with a real understanding of the economic problems in this country make him an ideal candidate. During the last few months he has invigorated our local party and I know he will do the same for Bromsgrove."

Merlene Toh Emerson, Chair of the Chinese Liberal Democrats proudly adds:

"We are incredibly proud of Philip who is part of the New Generation of talented and hardworking young politicians in our Party. As a British born Chinese he is completely integrated into British society. I am particularly pleased that he will be able to inspire young people and people of ethnic minority backgrounds to be engaged in politics and be the change that this country badly needs."
