Chinese Liberal Democrat Treasurer, Phil Ling (34), who's parents are from Hong Kong, has been selected by the Liberal Democrats as the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Tooting, London.

Commenting on his selection, Phil says "It is an honour to have been selected as the Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Tooting. I'm proud of the Lib Dem achievements in Government, in building a stronger economy and fairer society. It is important for all citizens to be involved in the political process, none more so than the Chinese.

"We should be involved in UK democracy, not just as voters, but as activists and agents of change for a better society. Full involvement in the democratic process is precious and not something everyone in the world has access to."

Phil was born in Leamington Spa and grew up in Warwick before studying Economics at the University of Bath. He joined the Liberal Democrats at university and has been a leading activist with the party in London. Phil stood in the 2010 general election in Bromsgrove, and most recently in the 2014 local elections.

Currently working for Thomson Reuters as a Strategic Pricing Manager, Phil has also worked for the Cabinet Office, BT, LTSB and a Boutique consulting firm in the past. In his spare time Phil enjoys playing and watching sport and fundraising for an international development charity.
